Moms Kick Ass: a Demon Hunting Soccer Mom

Happy Mother's Day!  Moms everywhere kick ass, between taking care of the kids, diapering butts, cleaning up someone else's puke at 3am, getting everyone where they need to be all the time, knowing where everyone is supposed to be all the time, and just generally keeping everyone fed and clothed, not to mention the whole giving birth and breastfeeding things (I gotta get me one of those "I make milk.  What's your superpower" t-shirts at some point!)!  Seriously, how is it that moms aren't revered as the superheros we are and just get one "Mother's Day" a year?

The most kick-ass mom I've ever read about (fictional, of course) is Kate Conner, star of the Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom books by Julie Kenner.   In addition to having a toddler and a teen and deal with some hardcore personal drama that cannot be missed, this woman manages to find time to battle pretty serious evil...and still support her husband's political aspirations!  This is probably one of my favorite series ever, so be sure to buy them, if you haven't already and make Ms. Kenner's (also a mom) Mother Day even better by supporting her work.

Carpe Demon: Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom (Book 1)Carpe Demon: Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom:  Lots of women put their careers aside once the kids come along. Kate Connor, for instance, hasn't hunted a demon in ages...

That must be why she missed the one wandering through the pet food aisle of the San Diablo Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, he managed to catch her attention an hour later—when he crashed into the Connor house, intent on killing her.

Now Kate has to clean up the mess in her kitchen, dispose of a dead demon, and pull together a dinner party that will get her husband elected to County Attorney—all without arousing her family's suspicion. Worse yet, it seems the dead demon didn't come alone. He was accompanied by a High Demon named Goramesh who, for some unknown reason, intends to kill off the entire population of San Diablo.

It's time for Kate Connor to go back to work.

California Demon: The Secret Life of a Demon-Hunting Soccer MomCalifornia Demon: The Secret Life of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Momate Connor was a retired demon hunter. Now, after fourteen years busting her tail as a suburban housewife, raising two kids, and supporting her husband's political ambitions, she's rejoined the workforce—and except for a few minions of evil, no one has a clue. She tries hard to keep her home and work lives separate—a good idea when your job involves random slaughter.

Between fending off demon attacks, trying to figure out why the mysterious new teacher at the high school seems so strangely familiar, and keeping a watchful eye on her daughter's growing infatuation with a surfer dude, Kate is the busiest—and most dangerous—soccer mom on the block ...

Demons Are Forever: Confessions of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom (Book 3)Demons Are Forever: Confessions of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom:  It isn't easy when your daughter's figured out that her mom's a demon hunter—and wants to grow up to be just like her.

Or when you suspect your dead husband used the forces of darkness to filch the body of another human. And your living husband has shifted into such political overdrive that he doesn't seem to be the man you married either.

Moreover, Kate's acquired a precious—but deadly—item that every demon within commuting distance is seething to get hold of. With husband woes playing havoc with her emotions, an ambitious teenage protégée at her heels, and hell to pay, this stay-at-home mom's putting in a lot of overtime...

Deja Demon: The Days and Nights of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom (Kate Connor, Demon Hunter)Deja Demon: The Days and Nights of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom: Between gala fundraisers for her husband's political campaign, chaperoning her daughter's first date, and performing arcane magical rituals, Kate hardly has time to prepare for the impending chaos: a party for her toddler son.

Keeping a house full of kiddies in line will take all of Kate's skills as a mother and demon hunter, just when she'll need them the most. The High Demon Goramesh has returned to San Diablo—this time with a full-blown army of the undead and a plan to get rid of Kate before she can get rid of him. And once again, it's up to Kate to save the world. Good thing she can multitask...

Demon Ex Machina: Tales of a Demon-Hunting Soccer MomDemon Ex Machina: Tales of a Demon-Hunting Soccer MomIn between demon patrols and teaching self-defense classes to the local moms, Kate has to deal with a teenage daughter who's gung-ho on being a demon slayer in training and a toddler son entering a tantrum phase that rivals anything from the pits of Hell.

And to make matters worse, ever since her husband Stuart learned about his wife's secret life, he's been practically smothering her with attention. That wouldn't be so bad, except that now Stuart's fired up to learn everything he can about demons, and that kind of research can get a guy former desk-jockey killed.

That's a lot for one suburban mom to juggle, but on top of it all, Kate has to find a way to release the demon possessing her first husband Eric without destroying the man inside. Because if the demon within Eric gets free, it just might be more than one seriously stressed suburban mom can handle...
